Day 1 – June 4th

Managed to get up and ready on time. Didn’t think I would make it; I was so tired! I’m a night person and with that time change, I couldn’t fall asleep! If I would have known I would look like a drowned rat by the end of the day I would have slept an extra 1/2 hour and not curled my hair. I could do without quite so much moisture (never thought I’d say that).

Mayflower II was a great experience. I can’t quite fathom living in a space that small, while traveling over the ocean and sharing it with 101 other people for months; how gross. Those had to be some amazing and hearty people to survive that. I thought the guy who was in the role of John Carver was really good. He had quick answers to our questions and was very quick with the one liners.

Disappointed with Plimoth Rock. I can’t believe that’s what all the myth / stories are about. But hey, I can say I’ve actually seen it! LOL

I really enjoyed Plimouth Plantation. It is amazing what they have built there. I was impressed with both the Wampanoag village and the 1627 village. I think it’s great that they are in character. It really lends to the learning experience. Dinner was fantastic. Wish I would have listened and taken small portions. Oh the indigestion! LOL  It all tasted much better than I expected. The spices and things they use to flavor it was very intriguing. My favorite dish was the mussels followed by the cheesecake. My least favorite was that stewed pumpkin! YUCK! It looked, smelled (and probably tasted like) baby food. But I did try it!

The gal who was the servant in the Brewster household (what was her character name?) was hysterical. I thought Donna was going to be her downfall though. Poor girl started laughing so hard she had to leave the room! A wonderful dinner and what a great way to learn. I think I learned more about colonial table manners in that one setting than I thought possible. This would be a fantastic trip for our students to take. They would learn so much and I think they would really get into the role playing and you know they would come up with some creative questions (especially the middle schoolers).
